Abstract
Introduction: the current sociodemographic situation with respect to the immigrant population in the spanish territory, the limitations that this group presents in relation to the absence of adequate planning, access and use of health services and the low levels of health and life expectancy registered in comparison with the levels presented by the spanish population; they promote the development of a scoping review in order to determine the effectiveness of health education in the immigrant population.
Objectives: determine the effectiveness of health education in the immigrant population.
Material and methods: scoping review, in which the search terms were: "health education", "emigrants and immigrants", " transients and migrants " and "refugees". The databases in which the searches were carried out were: Medline, Embase and Web of Science. Searches were carried out using MESH terms and EMTREE terms. The templates of the Spanish Critical Reading Skills Program were used to define the inclusion or exclusion of the preselected studies.
Results: seven of the nine studies included in the scoping review present favorable results regarding the objectives set for the immigrant population, through the application of health education interventions that consider their biopsychosocial environment and social inequalities in health.
Conclusions: health education interventions that consider the biopsychosocial environment and social inequalities in health of the immigrant population are effective in this sector of the population. It is necessary to develop research related to the provision of this type of health education interventions in the immigrant population, within the spanish territory, that allow addressing and providing a solution to the existing national problem.
