Análisis de la operación de las centrales hidroeléctricas en el sistema y en el mercado eléctrico español

Abstract

En este trabajo se estudia la hidráulica como tecnología de generación eléctrica dentro del sistema eléctrico español en un contexto de notable subida de precios que está habiendo desde finales de 2021. Para ello se describe previamente las características principales de esta tecnología a grandes rasgos, cómo se produce la electricidad en estas centrales y el funcionamiento del mercado eléctrico en el que la hidráulica tiene un papel importante. Posteriormente, se analiza la producción de hidroeléctrica frente a la demanda y al resto de tecnologías y cómo se adaptan unas a otras según sus restricciones técnicas. Para ello se presentan figuras creadas a partir de los registros y datos existentes de los operadores del sistema. Por último, se profundiza en el papel que tiene la hidráulica en el mercado, viendo cuándo participa y su relación con el precio de la electricidad y su subida, obteniendo conclusiones sobre su comportamiento.

This paper studies hydropower as an electricity generation technology within the Spanish electricity system in a context of a significant price increase that has been taking place since the end of 2021. To this end, the main characteristics of this technology are described in general terms, how electricity is produced in these plants and the functioning of the electricity market in which hydropower plays an important role. Subsequently, hydroelectric production is analyzed in relation to demand and the rest of the technologies and how they adapt to each other according to their technical restrictions. For this purpose, figures created from the existing records and data of the system operators are presented. Finally, the role of hydropower in the market is examined in depth, seeing when it participates and its relationship with the price of electricity and its rise, obtaining conclusions about its performance.
