Abstract
a satisfacer dichas necesidades.
general, no hablan castellano y tienen baja formación educativa.
Unaccompanied migrant minors are a group that suffers the consequences of migration,
racist discrimination and the bureaucratic obstacles of the system. In fact, one of their major
problems is language. Therefore, we as translators consider it necessary to help this group
wherever possible.
The main objectives of this project are to study the processes of regularization of
unaccompanied migrant minors and analyse if the necessary documents meet their
sociolinguistic needs. If not, a proposal that helps satisfy those needs will be created. To do so,
their rights in the applicable law were examined and checked to see if they are respected in the
process of regularization. Also, a sociolinguist profile of the minors was made and, on the basis
of the results, the linguistic needs that must be covered were identified. To meet those
objectives, a bibliographic search and analysis was carried out in order to study the information
covered in the media, institutional web pages and legislation, as well as associations reports and
research projects.
The results show that multiple violations of the rights of unaccompanied migrant minors
are made, specially related to the information they receive and their level of participation in the
proceedings. Also, the minors are mainly 15–17-year-old boys that run away from vulnerable
4
situations, they do not speak Spanish and have low educative training. Moreover, there are not
any translations for the application forms of the proceedings and they only exist in Spanish. On
the basis of these results, an analysis the level of the language of these documents was made in
order to elaborate a simplification proposal of it and an English translation to provide the minors
with more information and participation in the process of regularisation.
