Abstract
estudiadas. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between stressful life
events (SLE) and risky eating behaviors (REB) in the national adult population. To do
this, various REB have been assessed, such as binge eating, restrictive behaviors and
compensatory behaviors. Also, the level of risk for the development of an eating
disorder has been evaluated, as well as different variables associated with strokes,
such as the frequency, age of the event and the level of anxiety experienced before it.
The population under study was made up of 171 people residing in Spain, aged
between 18 and 65 years. The Brief Questionnaire on Risky Eating Behaviors (QREB)
and the Stressful Life Events Questionnaire (SLEQ) were used as evaluation
instruments.
The results obtained show positive correlations between the number of strokes
and the level of risk for developing an eating disorder, the feeling of lack of control
when eating, and fasting and dieting to try to lose weight. Likewise, positive
correlations were found between the level of anxiety before the stroke and the feeling
of lack of control when eating and concern about gaining weight. Also, a negative
correlation was found between the age at which the stroke occurred and the practice of
binge eating. Finally, there are no significant differences between genders in the
variables studied.
