Ludwig van Beethoven, uno de los más grandes compositores de todos los tiempos, marcó un antes y un después en el arte de la música considerándosele como la figura central de la transición entre el clasicismo musical del siglo XVIII y el romanticismo del siglo XIX. Su sordera todavía se mueve en el terreno de las hipótesis y sigue siendo materia de debate.
