Abstract
The Diccionario Geográfico-Histórico(Historical-Geographical Dictionary), written by Antonio de Alcedo, from Quito, is a typical XVIIIth century work. It is not a book about the U.S.A., but it contains a variety of references to them. Taking only the articles concerning the
foremost Thirteen Colonies, we have looked for information regarding the Revolution of 1776 reaching the conclusión that, owing to the limited information available about it. the Dictionary did no attempt to spread its ideas. Conversely it worked as a vehicle for the fully illustrated opinions of its author related to some of the doctrinal debates of the period.
