Creación de material divulgativo sobre el permafrost, su estudio en la Antártida, y su papel en el calentamiento global

Abstract

La popularización de las redes sociales en los últimos años ha supuesto una gran oportunidad para la divulgación. En este contexto, Twitter es una herramienta que facilita el acceso de los usuarios al conocimiento científico dados sus características de inmediatez y repercusión. El permafrost es uno de los elementos menos estudiados de los criosfera, a pesar de que cumple funciones ecosistémicas y climáticas clave. Por esta razón, y ante las dificultades de la ciencia para aproximarse a un público no especializado, surge la oportunidad y la necesidad de realizar divulgación científica sobre el permafrost, eligiéndose la herramienta Twitter para ello. El análisis de las divulgaciones existentes en Twitter evidencia que el inglés es el principal idioma que publica sobre la temática del permafrost. Ante esta situación, se acentúa la necesidad de contextualizar la situación en la que se encuentra el permafrost en habla hispana. En este escenario, se propone la realización del “PRIMER CURSO DE INTRODUCCIÓN AL PERMAFROST” en la cuenta Permafrost_UAH, administrada por el Dr. D. Miguel Ángel de Pablo Hernández, investigador responsable de la red PERMATHERMAL. El curso que será gratuito tendrá una duración de 5 semanas y contará con 5 bloques de contenido: (1) Definiciones y conceptos, (2) La importancia del estudio, (3) Gestión y protocolos internacionales, (4) Métodos y (5) El estudio del permafrost en la Antártida. Los 94 tweets se publicarán de lunes a domingo y tras completar las pruebas de evaluación publicadas, se procederá a la entrega de un documento simbólico de finalización de estudios.

The popularization of social networks in recent years has provided a great opportunity for dissemination. In this context, Twitter is a tool that facilitates users’ access to scientific knowledge given its immediacy and impact. Permafrost is one of the least studied elements of the cryosphere, despite its key ecosystemic and climatic functions. For this reason and given the difficulties of science to approach a non-specialist audience, the opportunity and the need for scientific dissemination on permafrost arises, choosing Twitter as the tool to do so. The analysis of existing dissemination on Twitter shows the great differences between Spanish and English. Due to this situation, the need to contextualize the situation of permafrost in Spanish-speaking countries is accentuated. In this context, the "FIRST INTRODUCTION COURSE TO PERMAFROST” is proposed in the account Permafrost_UAH, managed by Dr. Miguel Ángel de Pablo Hernández, researcher in charge of the PERMATHERMAL network. The course, which will be free of charge, will last 5 weeks and will include 5 blocks of content: (1) Definitions and concepts, (2) The importance of the study, (3) Management and international protocols, (4) Methods and (5) The study of permafrost in Antarctica. All 94 tweets will be published from Monday to Sunday and after completing the evaluation tests published, a symbolic document of completion of studies will be awarded.
