Abstract
Communication with foreign population in prisons is often carried out with prison companions who speak both the foreign language(s) in question and the national language(s). Accordi ng to data avai lable in Spai n, these ad hoc i nterpreters and translators lack the necessary training to carry out this task effectively. In arder to make progress in this situation and provide guidelines for effective communication in situations where language barriers hinder action, the following hypothesis is taken as a starting point: training bil ingual inmates can be a val id strategy to help resolve these difficulties and in turn contribute to fulfilling this function of reintegration into the penitentiary system. The aim of this article is to present the qualitative results of a pilot project aimed at bilingual prisoners in arder to improve their skills and strengthen mutual trust.
