Abstract
The chlorides MCl4 (M = Ti, Zr, Hf) react with the diols 4,4′-Me2C(C6H4OH)2 and 1,2-(OH)2Ar, Ar = C6H4, 4-MeC6H3, or 4-ButC6H3 to give the halogenoalkoxo derivatives MCl2(O2Ar). For M Ti these react with bases L (L = 2,2′-bipy, THF, Et2O) to give the corresponding adducts TiCl2(O2Ar)L, and with TlCp to give the monocyclopentadienyl complexes CpTiCl(O2Ar). The best way of preparing the analogous zirconium derivatives is through the reaction of CpZrCl3 · DME with (HO)2Ar.
