Abstract
amigos presentaron mayor impacto.
This study assesses the psychological impact of the COVID-19 crisis on the Security
Forces and the Armed Forces, since they are professionals on the front line of action.
242 professionals participated (211 men and 31 women), who completed an online
survey that evaluated post-traumatic stress symptoms (PTSD), burnout, emotional
suppression, several labor and sociodemographic variables, and some subjective labor
perceptions. 33.5% showed a severe psychological impact. The armed forces
presented less symptoms than the rest of the groups and the role most associated with
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) was patrolling. Professionals who lived with an
elderly person or with pathologies and those who had undergone at least one COVID-
19 test presented more symptoms of PTSD. On the other hand, the participants who
reported having contact with other people all or most of the time, those who perceived
that they were working more than normal, those who had suffered an aggression, those
who had had less than three weeks of vacation and those who that they had to
distance themselves from family and friends had a greater impact. Likewise, burnout,
emotional suppression and fear of contagion correlated with greater PTSD symptoms.
On the other hand, 72.31% had not received any type of support from their workplace.
These results can be useful to take the necessary measures to establish effective
psychological interventions and optimize the personal, social, and working conditions of
these professionals.
