Traducción comentada: análisis de la traducción de los textos "living with XYY y growing up with XYY"

Abstract

Este trabajo de fin de máster presenta la traducción comentada de los textos “living with XYY” y “growing up with XYY”, unos documentos elaborados por rarechromo.org, una organización centrada en prestar ayuda y proporcionar información a las familias de los afectados por una enfermedad rara, en este caso por XYY. El síndrome del XYY, que también se conoce como síndrome de Jakob, se trata de un trastorno genético de los cromosomas sexuales donde el hombre cuenta con un cromosoma Y adicional. El objetivo principal de esta traducción comentada es producir una traducción válida para que esta se pueda publicar en la página web de la organización y que permita que todos aquellos hispanohablantes que deseen obtener información sobre el síndrome y sus características puedan hacerlo en su idioma, en lugar de tener que intentar comprender el original escrito en inglés o directamente tener que prescindir de esta información tan valiosa. Se pretende también hacer un análisis en profundidad de la traducción basándome en Hurtado Albir y otros autores y expertos en traducción. Los objetivos adicionales consistían en crear un marco teórico en el que se basara el análisis, crear un glosario de ambos textos, documentarme de forma fiable y reflejar y documentar los problemas que se me presentaran. Para llevar a cabo la traducción y este análisis se tuvo que seguir varios pasos: leer diferentes teorías y publicaciones para establecer un marco teórico claro y ordenado, crear ese glosario con términos que resultaran difíciles o que aparecieran de forma repetida en los textos, buscar recursos de apoyo y textos paralelos con una temática similar a los que se debían traducir y clasificar de forma ordenada los problemas que aparecieron durante la realización de la traducción. Para terminar, se intenta obtener una traducción correcta de los textos para su futura publicación y hacer hincapié en la importancia de los traductores en los servicios públicos.

This master's thesis presents the annotated translation of the texts "living with XYY" and "growing up with XYY", documents produced by rarechromo.org, an organization focused on providing help and information to families of those affected by a rare disease, in this case by XYY. XYY syndrome, also known as Jakob's syndrome, is a genetic disorder of the sex chromosomes where the male has an extra Y chromosome. The main objective of this annotated translation is to produce a valid translation so that it can be published on the organization's website, so that all Spanish speakers who want to obtain information about the syndrome and its characteristics can do so in their own language, instead of having to try to understand the original TEXT, written in English, or manage without this valuable information. It is also intended to make an in-depth analysis of the translation based on the theories of Hurtado Albir and other authors and translation experts. The additional objectives were to create a theoretical framework on which to base the analysis, to create a glossary of both texts, to document myself reliably and to reflect and document the problems I encountered. In order to carry out the translation and this analysis I had to follow several steps: read different theories and publications to establish a clear and ordered theoretical framework, create said glossary with terms that I found difficult or that appeared several times in the texts, look for helpful resources and parallel texts with a similar subject matter to those I had to translate and classify in an orderly manner the problems that appeared during the realization of the translation. Finally, the aim was to obtain a correct translation of the texts for its future publication and to emphasize the importance of translators in public services.
