Public service interpreters may face an infinite number of different situations where the communicative act takes place. Situations where they deal with very sensitive subjects and in which some of the interlocutors may be psychologically affected by having to relate certain situations they have experienced previously. Interpreters may be psychologically affected by feeling identified with the user or by empathizing with him/her by having to interpret all their experiences in first person. In addition, due to the lack of information that interpreters have about the different psychological illnesses they may suffer from, many interpreters do not really know whether they have suffered from them or not. In this paper we have studied which psychological illnesses are known to be the most common among public service interpreters, and then we have carried out a survey and several interviews with both health care and legal-administrative interpreters, to verify whether reality confirms this theory, and to see the similarities and differences between these two types of interpreting. In addition, we wanted to reflect the lack of psychological training that interpreters receive and give a little insight into what exercises could be carried out to improve this type of information among future interpreters.en
