Neoconcrete: protocolo de intervención en patrimonio construido de hormigón armado

Abstract

El hormigón armado se trata de un material heterogéneo compuesto por cemento, agua, áridos, aditivos y acero. Se ha empleado en las últimas décadas hasta configurarse como un elemento característico en la arquitectura del Movimiento Moderno. Así, se ha convertido en una señal que define a la arquitectura del siglo XX, una íntimamente ligada con la construcción en altura. (...) Teniendo en cuenta todo lo anterior, es lógico que se planteen distintos métodos de preservar el patrimonio construido, siendo el cómo una de las grandes cuestiones que aún hoy en día provocan grandes controversias. Y si ya el material se ha deteriorado por las condiciones a las que ha estado expuesto, ¿cómo devolverlo a un buen estado? ¿Cómo se debe actuar en un elemento cuya conservación de la integridad y compatibilidad cobra una suma importancia? Estas son cuestiones que se irán planteando a lo largo de todo el trabajo y que se irán respondiendo así mismo, porque no recibe el mismo trato un elemento de hormigón común que ha sido deteriorado por ciertos agentes que uno que constituye parte de un valor patrimonial e histórico. Este último, al fin y al cabo, refleja la historia de una sociedad y quien conserva la historia, conserva su pasado y su memoria, conceptos asociados al carácter identitario de la sociedad occidental.

Reinforced concrete is a heterogeneous material made out of cement, water, aggregates, additives and steel. It has been used in recent decades to become a characteristic element in the architecture of the Modern Movement. Thus, it has become a landmark that defines the architecture of the Twentieth century, one intimately linked with high-rise construction. (...) Taking into account all of the above, it is logical that different methods of preserving the built heritage are proposed, being how one of the great issues that still cause great controversies nowadays. If the material has already deteriorated due to the conditions to which it has been exposed, how to return it to good condition? How should be the procedure to act on an element whose preservation of integrity and compatibility is extremely important? These are questions that will be raised throughout the present thesis and that will be answered as well, because a common concrete element that has been damaged by certain agents does not receive the same treatment as one that constitutes part of a patrimonial and historical value. The latter, after all, reflects the history of a society and whoever preserves history, preserves its past and memory, concepts associated with the identity of Western society.
