Abstract
In Praise of Shadows, lights and shadows throughout the history of art. It is a
qualitative research carried out through a theoretical methodology that uses a
historical method, which has its origin in the analysis of the essay "In Praise of
Shadows" by the Japanese author Junichiro Tanizaki (1933).
In this book, the writer deals with the idea of the cultural identity associated with the
concept of shadow. This reflection opens many questions and connects many concepts
and contents. The first part of the research analyzes and relates every aspect that
Tanizaki deals with in his book.
The second part of the research continues with the theoretical methodology. This is
the realization of a historical tour that explores the concept of light and shadow and its
meaning throughout the history of art from a pictorial point of view.
The research ends with an educational proposal for the students of the High School for
the Arts, which was carried out during my internship at J. H. Newman College
International.
