Prácticas transnacionales e integración en el paisaje lingüístico de Milán

Abstract

El estudio del Paisaje Lingüístico (PL) se asienta en una concepción del espacio físico como espacio social, cultural y político al mismo tiempo, ofrece una nueva aproximación al multilingüismo y constituye un importante instrumento para abordar las actitudes de los distintos grupos en los contextos migratorios. Los estudios existentes, sin embargo, no han hecho suficiente hincapié en la relación entre los objetos lingüísticos presentes en el espacio público y los procesos de integración. El presente artículo se plantea enfocar algunas de las prácticas lingüísticas y sociales de los inmigrantes latinoamericanos en Milán, a través del análisis de algunas unidades del PL presentes en uno de los barrios más multiétnicos de la ciudad. El objetivo es el de esbozar un modelo que permita poner en relación los rasgos del PL con las actitudes hacia la integración y las prácticas sociales de los colectivos de inmigrantes.

The study of the Linguistic Landscape (LL) is based upon a notion of physical space as also being a social, cultural and political space. It offers a new perspective on multilingualism and provides an important tool for analysing the attitudes of different groups within the context of immigration. Previous studies, however, have not sufficiently emphasized the relationship between the linguistic objects that can be seen in the public space and the different processes of integration. This article focuses on some of the linguistic, social and transnational practices of Latin American immigrants in Milan, through the analysis of some of the LL units found in one of the city’s most multiethnic neighbourhoods. The objective is to outline a model, which can connect features of the LL with attitudes towards integration and with the social and transnational practices of immigrant groups.
