Abstract
In my essay I will highlight certain issues that are related with the manuscript of
After giving an account of the recent
finding of the manuscript – which had long been deemed to be lost or to have gone missing
– in the Stadtbibliothek in Winterthur, Switzerland, I will refer to and illustrate in detail the
facts and contingencies that were conducive to such finding. I will do so also by focusing on
Werner Reinhart, the Swiss patron of arts to whom Falla gave the above mentioned score
as a gift in 1926. To this end, I will quote passages from written correspondence and shed light on significant events occurred in Falla’s life as well as in the music scene which characterized
both Spain and other countries – with a particular focus on Switzerland, given the specific connection
that underlies my research. And by all means, I will describe the extraordinary document itself, the
manuscript I had the opportunity to see and examine on my late stay in Winterthur.
