Abstract
This research focuses on the relationship between Manuel de Falla and Joaquín Nin
Castellanos, which began in the Parisian musical environment during the early twentieth century. The interest shared by both musicians in new music and their penchant for early music was the
basis for their bond which would last for over two decades. The closeness and the continuous personal
encounters –through direct contact or via correspondence–, encouraged their interest and admiration
of each other to gradually increase, although both continued their roles in different trajectories: Manuel
de Falla as a composer, and Joaquín Nin as a pianist. The thorough knowledge of their epistolary
catalogue allows us to unravel their respective affinities and differences, as well as the complementary
reciprocity which is the basis of the relation of these two national musicians, who were representative
of the Spanish music beyond the borders of the country.
