Abstract
In the field of harmony, the terms "consonance" and "dissonance" have been more or less inadvertently employed in the twentieth century to refer to distinct phenomena. This fact prevents the progress in the scientific knowledge of harmony, which must count on welldefined concepts. In this article we have identified three different phenomena denoted by the terms "consonance" or "dissonance", it is shown how they can be distinctly combined with each other, and it is defended the use of a specific terminology.
