Abstract
The exceptional situation that the world is experiencing as a result of the health crisis
caused by COVID 19 implies the implementation of drastic measures with the aim of
reducing the rate of infections and avoid saturation of the health system. These
measures have a high impact on the business structure, which has paralyzed their
activities in a high percentage, increasing their weakness and the risk of bankruptcy.
In this way, the world has been immersed in a severe economic downturn derived from
the health crisis.
Two are the aims of this paper. On the one hand, carrying out an analysis with a
comparative perspective of the business structure of the Region of Madrid and one of
its most dynamic areas from the economic point of view: the Henares Corridor. In this
way, given the importance of micro-businesses and the self-employed in the service
sector, it is possible to reflect on the degree of exposure of the business structure of
Madrid to the economic crisis stemming from the health crisis. On the other hand,
given the importance of the group of micro-enterprises in the Henares Corridor, an
analysis of their short-term strengths and weaknesses is carried out based on the
available economic-financial information, allowing us to anticipate as far as possible
their crisis response capacity.
