Abstract
This is a theoretical paper about reading based
on Eugenio Coseriu’s theory of the text and on considerations by others authors. It also uses the author’s experience in courses taught in Secondary School and in University. Teenagers have difficulties in reading long texts and may find it hard to relate to cultural issues. For this reason, the aesthetic effect of literary works facilitates the transmission of values that help to increase students’ interest in culture as well as enhancing their self-improvement and self-knowledge.
