Abstract
Ambas técnicas tienden a no utilizarse simultáneamente
One of the most used techniques in ecosystem restoration is revegetation. Improve plant
quality in the nursery increases the success of revegetation. The main techniques for
improving plant quality are fertilization and mycorrhization. Generally, both techniques
are not used simultaneously, because fertilization usually reduce the success of
mycorrhization. The main objective is to analyze the effects of fertilization with different
N forms on the development of Quercus ilex seedlings and its mycorrhization with Tuber
melanosporum. A full factorial design was carried out with: (1) inoculation (a) without
inoculation or (b) inoculation with T. melanosporum; and (2) N form- based fertilizer: (a)
ammonium; (b) nitrate; (c) organic N; (d) inorganic N (equimolar mixture of nitrate and
ammonium); (e) full mix (equimolar mixture of the three N forms); and also including a
control without fertilizer (f). We measured different plant traits: growth, chlorophyll
content and photosynthetic efficiency during cultivation, as well as the mycorrhization
index. Fertilization increased plant quality, fertilized seedlings increased growth at the
end of the culture and improved physiological parameters related to photosynthetic
capacity over non-fertilized ones. Among N forms, organic N fed plants improved both
the chlorophyll content and the photosynthetic efficiency of the seedlings without
decreasing growth. Thus, organic N was the most suitable N form for the culture of Q.
ilex seedlings. The elapsed time since inoculation to the last harvesting was not enough
for the development of mycorrhizae. However, inoculation affected seedling traits as a
function of N form, accelerating phenology with earlier growth cessation, specially under
nitrate fertilization. Results suggest that mycorrhization of Q. ilex seedlings could be
maximized under culture with full mix fertilizer. Full mix gave rise to the best plant
characteristics i.e. higher root development and improved photosynthetic parameters.
