Antonio Soler (1729-1783) cultivated, as a musician, both the theoretical and practical aspects of his art, while he followed his vocation as Hieronymite monk at San Lorenzo de El Escorial monastery. Soler is author of the most remarkable oeuvre for keyboard of his time, heir to the tradition of Scarlatti (some 150 works); but he also wrote chamber and mainly vocal music (near 400 works), mainly for use at the monastery. As a music theorist, he wrote two important treatises, all of which places him among the most complete musicians of his time.en
