La madeja de la integración latinoamericana. Un recorrido histórico

Abstract

El artículo realiza un recorrido histórico de la integración regional en América Latina, caracterizando los diversos períodos que ha atravesado, desde mediados del siglo XX hasta inicios del presente siglo. Al final se entregan unas breves reflexiones sobre el último proceso lanzado en la región: PROSUR. El trabajo da cuenta de la sobreoferta de mecanismos de integración vigentes, con diversos grados de avance y compromisos en la región, la que se puede caracterizar, en tal sentido, como un spaghetti bowl.

The article makes a historical review of regional integration in Latin America, characterizing the different periods it has gone through, from the mid-20th century to the beginning of the present century. At the end, there are some brief reflections on the last process launched in the region: PROSUR. The article gives an account of the oversupply of existing integration mechanisms, with varying degrees of progress and commitments in the region, which can be characterized, in that sense, as a spaghetti bowl.
