Brexit: Panorámica actual e influencia sobre el turismo en España

Abstract

Frente a la gran mayoría de los pronósticos, el 23 de junio de 2016 venció la opción Brexit en el referéndum celebrado en Reino Unido. Este hecho abrió la puerta a la incertidumbre y a una serie de duras negociaciones entre este país y el a Unión Europea, encaminadas a establecer un acuerdo de salida. Tras tres años de proceso, la fecha de salida se ha retrasado y no se vislumbra, a día de hoy, la posibilidad de alcanzar un acuerdo. España es uno de los países más afectados por este proceso, dado que la estructura económica española depende en gran manera del turismo, siendo el Reino Unido el primer país emisor de turistas que deciden viajar a España. Es por este motivo por el que resulta de vital importancia conocer los antecedentes del Brexit, así como el proceso de negociación y los posibles modelos de relación que podrían sustentar un acuerdo.

Contrary to the vast majority of forecasts, the UK referendum of 23rd June 2016 resulted in the decision to leave the European Union (Brexit). This opened the door to uncertainty and a series of hard negotiations between the UK and the EU, in order to establish a Withdrawal Agreement. Three years later, the departure date of the UK has been delayed, and the prospect of reaching a decision appears to be no closer. Spain is one of the countries most affected by this process, given that its economic structure depends greatly upon tourism and being that the UK is the biggest source of tourists visiting Spain. It is for this reason that it is vitally important to know the background of Brexit, in addition to the negotiation process and the possible relationship models that could support an agreement.
