Abstract
This project is based on the analysis of several industrialized emergency shelters which have been used after disasters and situations where massive housing and immediate deployment is needed.
In order to properly understand the shelter projects that have been more used and accepted in these situations, it is necessary to begin analysing the disasters, define what is considered disaster and what are their causes and consequences.
Establishing the concept of industrialization implies knowing the advantages it can mean in humanitarian aid related issues, especially in emergency shelter supply. After reviewing the most important emergency shelter solutions along the history, assessing the building systems used and reception on site, we will study some of the most relevant projects of recent years.
In this research several aspects that determine the design of the emergency shelters will be considered.
First of all, it is necessary to know the disaster features and the place where the shelters will be built, assessing the site and victims’ particular needs. If the solution is universal, requirements will be studied in a more general way.
Besides, it must be taken into account the materialization of the solution, regarding the manufacturing process, building materials, etc.
By last, it is essential to treat the implementation of the shelter properly, from transportation to assembly and population acceptance.
If these factors are not taken into account, the resulting solutions will not go from mere prototypes. If this phase is overcome and put into practice, it is possible that they will be rejected by the population.
