El apéndice interrogativo ¿sabes? y su doble difusión en la estructura social de la periferia de Madrid (Vallecas)

Abstract

En estas páginas analizamos la difusión del marcador ¿sabes? en la estructura social del distrito de Vallecas. En un estudio previo (Molina 2005), se vio que en el barrio de Salamanca goza de prestigio abierto, pues se identifica con valores de solidaridad y con niveles sociales de prestigio. El estudio del marcador en Vallecas parecía muy adecuado para medir el avance de la innovación en otros lugares de la ciudad con diferente nivel socioeconómico y distinta estructura social. Aunque es cierto que también está presente en el sur de la ciudad, el perfil social de los hablantes que lo emplean en Vallecas difiere en parte del que se describió en el centro. La estratificación por sexo revela, a su vez, que las mujeres y los hombres jóvenes son los promotores del marcador en el barrio, pero lo hacen desde entornos sociales distintos y, por tanto, con significados sociales también diferentes. En este segundo análisis se comprueba su presencia en la periferia del sur de Madrid y se identifica su penetración por dos vías sociales.

In these pages we analyze the difussion of the discourse marker ¿sabes? through the social structure of the neighborhood of Vallecas, Madrid. In a previous study (Molina 2005), it was found that enjoys overt prestige, since it’s identified with values of solidarity and with prestigious social levels. Research on this marker in Vallecas allows us to study the progression of this innovative use in areas of Madrid that show a different social structure and socioeconomic level. Although it’s true that this is also present in the southern part of the city, the social profile of people who use it in Vallecas is different from the one identified downtown. Stratification by sex reveals that it is the young women and men who promote the marker in this neighborhood. However, both groups do it from different social backgrounds and in association with different social meanings. The present research project verifies the presence of the marker in the southern periphery of Madrid, as well as its advance through two social routes.
