Abstract
“The airplane indicts” It is one of the symbolic phrases that Le Corbusier wrote in his manifest Aircraft, as a manifest of the worldwide revolution of airplanes, symbol of a new age. The book reviews the speculative growth on the city and the lack of integration-connection with aircrafts and aeronautical spaces (airports, airdromes, airbases, flight schools, engineering colleges, etc).
Cuatro Vientos, first airdrome and historically considered the first military and civil aeronautical training center in Spain, has been one of this ignored space surrounded by dwelling developments.
It’s dismantling on the military side and the lack of impulse in the aerodynamic sector made Cuatro Vientos as a void in the city with important urban problems; underdevelopment, obsolete spaces, disconnection or high density. Hangar One becomes a manifest that aims to organize and activate the Military Base and the Civil Airdrome of Cuatro Vientos as strategic urban elements for Madrid. Furthermore, they’ll become national and international referents for creating “training cities”, being their main focus the development and investigation in the aeronautic sector.
