The following document is included as part of the Antartic Cosmic Ray Observatory project (ORCA), carried out by members of the Space Research Group (SRG) of the Universidad de Alcalá (UAH). This project has as main goal to design and install a Cosmic Ray detector. This detector will be able to measure secondary cosmic rays, providing information about particles such as their type (neutrons, muons, electrons and gammas) and primary cosmic ray energies. This detector will travel from Spain to Livingston Island, located in the northern Antartica. This allows to perform a latitudinal survey of cosmic ray flux along the travel from Spain to Juan Carlos I Spanish Antarctic Base (JCI), and finally, to install it as a cosmic ray observatory. ORCA will allow to investigate the solar activity by measuring the muon and neutron fluxes and their incoming direction, to check propagation models for cosmic rays through the magnetosphere and atmosphere. ORCA will be housed in a standard 20 ft shipping container. This container will be modified in order to obtain an optimal operation of the detector’s system. Firstly, a structure to support the detector’s weight is designed. This structure will be placed in the container and will hold the devices, even while the travelling oscilations occur. On the other hand, thermal insulation is calculated to reduce the exchanged heat between the container and the enviroment. An air conditioner is selected to cover the thermal losses, in order to achieve a thermal control inside the container, allowing the detectors to operate with a constant temperature. Finally, a study of expected power consumption during the operation of ORCA and the contribution of a photovoltaic installation are carried out.en
