La Estadística Pública como apoyo a la investigación

Abstract

Cualquier estudio o investigación sobre temas económicos, sociales y, por supuesto territoriales, requiere disponer y utilizar datos e información estadística. El artículo examina el estado actual de la producción de estadísticas públicas de carácter regional en España y en la UE. Como paso previo, el autor aporta algunas interesantes consideraciones sobre los avances que ha experimentado la producción de estadísticas en España, desde la constitución del llamado «Estado de las Autonomías» hasta la fecha. Asimismo, señala los puntos en los que persisten debilidades y problemas no resueltos y que sería importante solucionar lo más pronto posible. En una segunda parte del trabajo, que es realmente la más sustancial, el artículo ofrece información y modos de acceso a las estadísticas sobre temas territoriales que tienen su origen en EUROSTAT, en el Instituto Nacional de Estadística de España, y en los distintos institutos o servicios estadísticos creados por las comunidades autónomas. El tema tratado es, sin duda, de la mayor trascendencia para todos los investigadores que trabajan en temas regionales y urbanos y, por este motivo, "Investigaciones Regionales" incluye en esta sección este trabajo que supone una revisión actualizada de las disponibilidades estadísticas y de algunos problemas que su uso plantea. El lector encontrará también referencias a las páginas web de las distintas instituciones estadísticas y algunas indicaciones muy interesantes sobre sus contenidos y su posible utilización.

Any study or research on economic, social and territorial subjects requires, of course, to arrange and to use data and statistical information. The article examines the present state of the production of official regional statistics in Spain and the UE. As a previous step, the author offers some interesting remarks on the advances experienced by Spain in this field, mainly from the constitution of the so-called «The State of the Autonomies» to now. The paper shows also some unsolved weaknesses and problems that would be important to solve as soon as possible. The second part of the article, surely the most substantial one, offers information on the statistical sources offered by EUROSTAT, the National Institute of Statistic of Spain, and the institutes or statistical services created by the Autonomies (Spanish regions). The subject of this contribution is, without a doubt, of high interest for all researchers who work on regional and urban matters. This is the reason why "Investigaciones Regionales" includes this contribution in this section. It is an updated revision of the statistical availabilities and of some problems to use them. The reader will also find references to the most interesting web sites of the different statistical institutions and some indications on its contents and possible use.
