Abstract
Most of the papers that have tackled the issue of the conservation, environmental quality and determination of the ecological status of the Guadarrama River basin correspond mainly to the middle course, leaving the upper course without any specific study. The objective of the present work is to diagnose the status of the upper section of the Guadarrama River in order to obtain a holistic view of its ecological quality, to identify the environmental degradation level, and the factors that can have a significant impact on the river basin. To do this, a preliminary description of the section was developed together with an analysis of the data related to water quality and other important parameters used to diagnose the state of the ecosystem that directly depends on the river. All of these data was provided by various government agencies that are in charge of monitoring and protecting Guadarrama River. Visits were also carried out to contrast the information used for the theoretical analysis, generate cross sections of the river and develop a list of typical aggressions. Finally, a diagnosis is made on the current state of the upper section of the river and proposals for possible solutions are made.
