Integración sociolingüística de mujeres inmigrantes hispanoamericanas en Galicia: actitudes, mantenimiento y discriminación

Abstract

El estudio de las trayectorias de integración sociolingüística de la inmigración hispanohablante en España pone de relieve la importancia de factores como las actitudes lingüísticas, el prestigio, la identidad cultural o el imaginario social de recepción. A partir del análisis de 17 entrevistas en profundidad, este artículo se centra en el caso específico de las mujeres hispanoamericanas asentadas en Galicia. En concreto, se contextualizan los procesos de integración de las informantes a partir de fragmentos de entrevistas, los cuales versan sobre sus percepciones acerca de las variedades del español en cuestión, la propia y la gallega, su mantenimiento o cambio lingüístico y casos específicos de discriminación. El análisis de las particularidades y dificultades que singularizan la integración de este colectivo de inmigrantes subraya la arbitrariedad del tópico sobre la unidad del idioma y la necesidad de una sociedad receptora coherente con la diversidad que la caracteriza.

Sociolinguistic integration of Spanish American women in Galicia: attitudes, maintenance and discrimination. The study of the sociolinguistic integration trajectories of Spanish-speaking immigrats in Spain highlights the importance of factors such as linguistic attitudes, prestige, cultural identity, or the imaginary of the receiving society. This paper focuses on the specific case of Spanish American women settled in Galicia through the analysis of 17 in-depth interviews. Particularly, the integration processes of the informants are contextualized by means of examining interview extracts which deal with a) their perceptions about the Spanish linguistic varieties in question, both their own and the Galician; b) their linguistic maintenance or shift; and c) particular cases of discrimination. The analysis of the distinctive features and difficulties that singularize the integration processes of this collective of immigrants emphasizes the arbitrariness of the myth of Spanish as ‘a common language’ and the necessity of a receiving society consistent with its diversity.
