Abstract

La concepción étnico-lingüística que tienen los inmigrantes marro-quíes en España sobre sí mismos como “árabes” o “marroquíes” a veces está asociada a la noción de ser musulmán o musulmaneidad. Y en la construcción de esta conceptualización y asociación, la lengua árabe a veces suele ser un factor fundamental. El objetivo de este artí-culo es, pues, analizar cómo –en el seno de un grupo de primo-migrantes marroquíes residentes en Madrid– la construcción de la identidad etnolingüística árabe en un contexto migratorio y de diáspo-ra está ligada y emparejada a / con su identidad musulmana colectiva, y cómo el grupo legitima dicha relación e intersección. Nuestro pro-pósito también es examinar a través de qué estrategias de argumenta-ción y legitimación, nuestros informantes reproducen o contestan con sus discursos un modelo u otro de construcción de la identidad arabo-musulmana a partir de la técnica del grupo de discusión. Por último, intentaremos ver hasta qué punto existen posiciones discursivas que reclaman una vitalidad etnolingüística e identitaria para una comuni-dad lingüística árabe minoritaria que intenta resistir formas de asimi-lación, estratificación sociolingüística y relaciones de poder en las que está implicada, tanto a nivel local y regional como a nivel nacional

The ethno-linguistic idea that Moroccan immi-grants in Spain have about themselves as “Arabs” or “Moroccans” is sometimes associated with the notion of being a Muslim or Muslimness. In the formation of this conception and association, the Arabic language is often a key factor. The aim of this paper is there-fore to analyse how, within a group of Moroccan migrants living in Madrid, the construction of Arab ethno-linguistic identity in the context of migration and Diaspora is tied up with their collective Muslim identity, and how this group legitimates this interrelation. We also aim to examine the argumentation and legitimation strate-gies by means of which our informants discursively reproduce or reply to the model for constructing an Arab-Muslim identity by using the technique of group discussion. Finally, we attempt to iden-tify to what extent there are discursive positions that call for an ethno-linguistic vitality are significant, as well as in terms of identi-ty, on behalf of a minority Arab linguistic community that tries to resist forms of assimilation, sociolinguistic stratification and power relations in which it is bound up both at the local and regional level and, moreover, at a national level.
