Los servicios de traducción e interpretación proporcionados por las ONG : un estudio comparativo entre la situación actual en España y el Reino Unido

Abstract

El aumento de la población extranjera en España durante la última parte del siglo XX y a comienzos del siglo XXI ha tenido como consecuencia que, hoy en día, la población en España se componga de multitud de distintas nacionalidades, culturas y lenguas. Dicho cambio en la población del país supone una nueva necesidad; la de disponer de traductores e intérpretes en los servicios públicos, con el fin de ayudar a la integración de la población extranjera en la sociedad española, así como facilitar la comunicación entre éstas. Dado que son las ONG las que actualmente llevan a cabo la gran mayoría del trabajo en el campo de la Traducción e Interpretación en los Servicios Públicos (TISP), un análisis de los servicios de traducción e interpretación proporcionadas por las ONG es imprescindible para determinar cómo se trata la demanda. El objetivo principal de esta investigación es el de analizar los servicios de traducción e interpretación de las ONG en España y en el Reino Unido, país donde el ámbito de la TISP es más avanzado. Este trabajo es un estudio comparativo que pretende comparar los resultados que se obtengan desde las ONG españolas con los que se extraigan del estudio previo de Carmen Valero (2006), así como contrastar dichos resultados con los que se obtengan de las ONG británicas.

The increase in foreign population in Spain during the last part of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st century means that the population currently residing in Spain is made up of many different nationalities, cultures and languages. This change in the population poses a new need; that of introducing translators and interpreters to work in the public services in order to help the integration of foreign people within Spanish society, in addition to facilitating communication between these two parties. Given that NGOs are the organisms that carry out the majority of the work in the field of Public Service Translating and Interpreting, an analysis of the translating and interpreting services offered by NGOs is essential in order to determine how the workload is managed. The main objective of this investigation is to analyse the translating and interpreting services in NGOs in Spain and the UK, a country in which the field of Public Service Translating and Interpreting is more advanced. This dissertation is a comparative study which will compare the results obtained from Spanish NGOs with those results obtained by Carmen Valero in her previous study in 2006, in addition to comparing the former mentioned results with those obtained from British NGOs.
