Un capítulo fundamental de la primera guerra púnica: en torno a la localización de "Heirktê"

Abstract

En la campaña del año 247 a. C. Amílcar Barca desembarcó sorpresivamente en un lugar conocido como Heirktê en Polibio (I, 55,6-7 y 56 y 57), en los alrededores de Palermo (antiguo Pánormos). El mismo sitio sin duda que el Herkté o Herktaí en Diodoro (XXII, 10,4 y XXIII, 20). Desde él combatió a los romanos durante casi tres años. En el siglo xix se daba por sentado que Heiktê se situaba en el Monte Pellegrino, una espectacular montaña, cuyas estribaciones apenas distan tres kilómetros del puerto antiguo de Palermo (Pánormos). Pero ya a comienzos del siglo xx se discutió esa hipótesis y durante los últimos cien años se ha ubicado Heirktê en distintos lugares de las montañas próximas a Palermo: en el Monte Castellaccio-Billiemi, en el Pecoraro, en el Palmeto (o Palmita), en los que se han encontrado restos arqueológicos. El presente trabajo analiza esas hipótesis y establece algunas conclusiones al respecto.

In the campaign of the year 247 Hamilcar Barca took by surprise Heirktê, a mountain in the surroundings of Palermo (ancient Pánormus). This mountain called Heirktê by Polybius (I, 55,6-7 and 56 and 57) is the same as the one called Herkté or Herktaí by Diodorus (XXII, 10,4 and XXIII,20). Hamilcar hold that position for almost three years in constant fight against the Romers. For more than hundred years it has been under discussion where Heirktê was. In the xix Century it was thought that it had to be indentify with Monte Pellegrino, a huge mountain very close North of Palermo, but from the beginning of xx Century on scholars have been settled other theories about where Heirktê was and different hypothesis situated it in different mountains in the surroundings of Palermo: in Monte Castellaccio-Billiemi, Pecoraro, Palmeto (or Palmita). The present work analyzes such hypothesis and establishes some conclusions on it
