| es_ES |
dc.description.abstract | Otomi speakers in Mexico City. The loss of a language in three
generations. Immigration, apart from being understood as the change
of place of residence of a specific sociocultural group or a specific
part of that group, also implies an approach to the otherness that
lives in the place of the chosen destination. Through the cultural
contact the cultural baggage of the people who belong to both
groups is enriched in a reciprocal way, nevertheless a situation of
cultural asymmetry can take place. In this article the situation of the
otomis from Santiago Mexquititlán, Querétaro, Mexico is analyzed.
This group of people immigrated to Mexico City in the second half
of the XXth Century and in this article it is shown how, in a relationship
of cultural asymmetry, the assimilation of the population in
sociopolitical disadvantage is forced and all the conditions for this
phenomenon to taken are favored. Due to this situation, the cultural
paradigms of the immigrating group are transformed, resignified or
even lost, such as the case of the language. | en |
