Abstract

Perceived closeness between languages and willingness to learn. In these times, when once again a major migration movement to Germany and other German-speaking countries is taking place, it is the task of didactics to contribute to improve and accelerate the acquisition process of German. In this paper we examine the possibility of exerting a positive influence on affective factors which are relevant in the process of learning. Our research combines aspects of two different approaches, the Hufeisen and Marx Factor Model (2007) and Bandura’s Self-Efficacy Model (1977). In an empirical study carried out in Germany with Spanish students, promoting trans-linguistic awareness proved to have a positive effect on the perception of the difficulty of the language. Through an explicit metalinguistic overview which highlights interlinguistic coincidences, the perception of German as a difficult language was modified, thereby reducing students’ anxiety levels, allowing us to predict more relaxed and efficient learning.
