El turismo, motor del crecimiento y de la recuperación de la economía española

Abstract

El turismo es una de las actividades económicas más relevantes de la economía española. Ha jugado y sigue jugando, sin duda, un importante papel en el crecimiento económico español. A pesar de los problemas estructurales existentes en algunas de las ramas vinculadas del sector turístico, éste ha realizado una importante aportación a la demanda y oferta española. La reciente crisis económica ha incidido también sobre el sector turístico español, especialmente en el comportamiento del consumo turístico interno. Pero, las características de bastantes actividades vinculadas al turismo, como la hostelería y restauración o los transportes, que son altamente dependientes de la evolución de la demanda externa, han posibilitado un mejor comportamiento cíclico en las actividades turísticas. El objetivo principal de este trabajo es evaluar la evolución que ha tenido el sector turístico en España, antes y después de la crisis económica, y su contribución al crecimiento económico, analizando el comportamiento del turismo y de sus principales componentes y actividades respecto al conjunto de la economía

Tourism is one of the most relevant economic activities of the Spanish economy. This sector has played and continues to play an important role for its contribution to the Spanish economic growth. Despite the structural problems of some subsectors linked to tourism, the sector has contributed widely to the aggregated demand and supply of the national economy. The recent economic and financial crisis has had negative effects on the touristic activities, particularly from the point of view of the domestic demand. But, the characteristics of a good number of economic activities linked to tourism and some of the more specific subsectors - like hotels and restaurants and transport - are highly dependent of the foreign demand and this has shown a rather better behaviour than the domestic one. The main objective of this work is to evaluate the evolution of the Spanish touristic sector before and after the economic crisis and its contribution to the economic growth, analyzing the evolution of the touristic flows, their economic weight in the economy and the contribution of tourism to the Spanish economy as a whole
