Abstract

This study sees the potential of podcasting to increase participation and interaction among students from Spanish Second Language conversation class level B1 Specifically, it employs one podcast from the radio program Hablar por Hablar as an input to observe and explore the process during the discussion that requires students to help and be helped. These observations are collected in fragments which have been transcribed previously. According to preliminary results, the participant gives help during significant silent pauses and when they use gestures, giggles and other paralinguistic signs. It is apparent that the demand and offer for help arise where both interlocutors see that the flow of the conversation is altered. We see that the language used during demand for assistance process can be in both Spanish or in Mandarin.
