Fernando Pais de Tamalhancos: trovador e cavaleiro

Abstract

Fernando Pais de Tamalhancos se sitúa entre los más antiguos trovadores de la poesía lírica gallego-portuguesa. El análisis de la documentación permite definir con notable precisión el linaje al que perteneció y las conexiones sociales establecidas a lo largo de su vida. Los orígenes familiares nos llevan al sudoeste gallego, área em que sus antepasados consiguieron un notable poder político y patrimonial gracias a la participación en la administración y expansión territorial de los reinos centro-occidentales de la Península. Esas mismas fuentes revelan sus vínculos con el grupo familiar Traba-Lima, cuyo papel en el origen y difusión del trovadorismo gallego-portugués parece haber sido determinante, y su relación biográfica con el área asturicense.

Fernando Pais de Tamalhancos is placed amongst the Galician- Portuguese earliest troubadours. Document analysis allows us to define with remarkable precision the lineage he belonged to, and the social connections he established along his life. His family origins take us to SW Galicia, an area where his ancestors had acquired remarkable political and patrimonial power, as a result of their participation in the administration and the territorial expansion of the Iberian central-western kingdoms. These same sources reveal his ties to the family group Trava-Lima, whose role appears to have been determinant in the origin and the diffusion of the Galician-Portuguese troubadour poetry, and his biographical relation with the Astorga area.
