Abstract
En el estudio se inserta el cuento de don Pitas Payas en la amplia tradición de cuentos medievales de adulterio y se subrayan sus rasgos cómicos. Pese a que no contemos con antecedentes escritos, la localización de una versión oral asturiana y la pervivencia del motivo central en una anécdota narrada por Picasso permite aventurar la hipótesis de que Juan Ruiz reelaborara algún cuento folclórico.
 
This paper places the short story of don Pitas Payas in the broad tradition of adultery medieval stories and points out it’s comical characteristics. Although there are no written records, the finding of an Asturian oral version and the endurance of a central motif in an anecdote told by Picasso allows the proposal of the hypothesis that Juan Ruiz reelaborated a folktale in this story.
