The Libro conplido en los iudizios de las estrellas, as we can read in his prologue, was translated from Arabic to Castilian by order of Alfonso el Sabio, in 1254. Afterwards the Castilian text was the basis of two different Latin versions, created also at the court of Alfonso. Two research scientists (David Romano and Kirstin Kennedy) believe that even before 1254 a Latin version of the work translated directly from the Arabic had already existed. Romano’s opinion, however, is founded on a mistake and the opinion of Kennedy, who believes that the hypothetical earlier third Latin version was even the basis of the Castilian translation, invites a serious scientific examination.
