Abstract

The aim of this paper is to deepen on the empirical study of occupational segregation by gender in Spain. To this end, a twofold purpose is pursuit. First, analyze what has been the behavior of segregation in Spain during the current economic crisis. Otherwise, find out the role of employment more closely related to Information Technology and Communication (ICT). For this, we first measure job segregation from a two-dimensional (sectors and occupations) perspective, later identified the most relevant factors explaining its determination and evolution. Finally, the paper identifies the labour and personal characteristics that support the differences existing in terms of segregation between economic activities and occupations. The results point out that the higher education are not liked with segregated labour areas while being an immigrant is the feature more linked to segregation.
