Introduction: Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS) is a localized pain that appears in the muscle after an intense effort and continues for 5-7 days. The main mechanism by which occurs is still unknown, although it has been observed that it appears more easily if the muscle performs eccentric contraction. Objective: This study aims to observe if there is a relationship between force and the level of motor unit recruitment of each contraction (concentric, isometric and eccentric). Material and methods: this study is an observational pilot study which counted with the collaboration of 15 student volunteers, 8 men and 7 women with an age between 18 and 22 years (a median age of 19,27 years). Subjects (7 trained subjects and 8 untrained subjects) filled a questionnaire previously. The evaluated aspects were the electrical activity of the triceps brachii muscle of the dominant upper limb and the force produced by the subject during a push-up, that is, during the concentric, isometric and eccentric contraction of the muscle. Results and discussion: subjects, in general, perform a greater strength in eccentric contractions than in concentric and isometric contractions, and there were no differences between trained and untrained subjects. It was observed a correlation between body weight and the force produced by the subject. In the analysis of electrical activity was observed a greater recruitment in concentric contractions than in the eccentric and isometric contractions. The trained subjects presented a lower recruitment than untrained subjects. On the correlation between the force and the motor unit recruitment of each contraction, the results were not significant. Conclusion: This study allows us to calculate the sample size for which the results obtained in this study would be significant.en
