Abstract

In this essay I approach to the crossing academic university discourse that has developed on both sides of Atlantic, throughout its historical development; with particular emphasis on a comparative analysis of social and material realities through which has been generated, developed and transformed the University. The European University project, consolidated in Spain, was taken to the American Colonies, leaving their humanistic mark on them. The study of relations between the university and the cities, their design and architectural transformation, and the development of corporate identity, are some of the key elements to achieve an approach to the phenomenon of academic study. Research from which to consider all of our university practices, its formation as social representations, its configuration as symbolic constructions of scientific knowledge, and the importance of our work as intellectuals.
