Lengua e inmigración en el contexto educativo y social

Abstract

En el contexto de las migraciones internacionales, el conocimiento de la lengua se presenta como una de las barreras que el emigrante y sus descendientes han de franquear para acceder a una plena integración en la sociedad de acogida. En España, por ser la inmigración masiva un fenómeno reciente, la atención política y académica todavía se centra, sobre todo, en la gestión de los flujos; aún es pronto para vislumbrar la evolución que seguirá la integración socio-cultural de los diferentes grupos de inmigrantes. En el aspecto cultural, cabe suponer a priori que la fuerte inmigración de origen hispanoamericano está mejor situada que la de otros grupos de procedencia para alcanzar una integración satisfactoria, a diferencia de lo sucedido en Estados Unidos con la comunidad latina. Ahora bien, sin negar las facilidades que proporciona la lengua común, la comparación con otros países indica que seguramente este no es el aspecto más importante que deberán abordar las futuras políticas de integración y de gestión de los flujos migratorios.

In the context of International migrations, the knowledge of the language is one of the barriers that the newcomer and his descendants have to face to gain a full integration in the host society. In Spain, where immigration is relatively recent, the political and academic attention to migration is still focused on the management of flows rather than integration. Regarding the ~ ~ ~ t uasrpaeclt of integration, it would be easy to suppose that Latin-American immigrants are better placed than immigrants from other origins to gain a faster and fuller integration, given the cultural proximity and the sharing of the same language. This would be a major difference to what has happened in the USA with the Latino or Hispanic communities. Nevertheless, a comparison with other countries suggests that, even if sharing the language is a considerable advantage, this is not the only or even the main aspect that future policies of integration will have to tackle.
