Inmigración y servicios de traducción en España

Abstract

La evolución en la sociedad española ha provocado cambios en las relaciones entre los miembros que la forman: los que estaban y los que llegan, y la comunicación entre ambos es fundamental para la convivencia. Cuando se trata de interlocutores que no comparten lengua y/o cultura, la traducción y la interpretación son dos formas necesarias y utilizadas. El propósito de las páginas que siguen es ofrecer una visión de la práctica de la traducción, entendida como el traslado de información escrita de una lengua a otra, dejando para otra ocasión la interpretación (o traslado de información oral de una lengua a otra), consciente de que son dos servicios que se solapan con facilidad pero que a su vez ofrecen características específicas y que son las que nos interesan dar a conocer. Con el fin de cubrir dicho objetivo, en primer lugar, describiré de forma general la situación de la traducción e interpretación en los servicios públicos (T&ISP) en nuestro país. En segundo lugar, analizaré las características de la traducción en este ámbito con especial atención a factores que afectan al proceso y producto de la traducción. En tercer lugar, daré cuenta de varios estudios dedicados a la evaluación de la calidad y efectividad de los textos traducidos (TI). Finalmente, extraeré algunas conclusiones y avanzaré ideas para el futuro.

The social evolution of Spain has caused changes in the relations between the members that constitute it: those who were alread y there and those who arrived, and cornmunication is fundamental for that coexistence. Within communication forms, when interlocutors do not share language and /or culture, translation and interpretation are two necessary and used key elements. The intention of these pages is to offer a vision of the translation practice, understood as the transfer of written information from one language to another, leaving for a different occasion the interpretation (or transfer of oral information from one language to another), conscious that they are two easily overlapped services, but with specific characteristics. In order to reach this objective, in the first place, I will describe in a general way the situation of the translation and interpretation in the public services (T&IPS) in Spain. Secondly, I will analyze the characteristics of translation paying special attention to factors affecting the process and product of the translation. Thirdly, I will report several studies dedicated to th e evaluation of quality and effectiveness of translated texts (TT). Finally, I will draw sorne conclusions and I will advance ideas for the future.
