Abstract
This article studies the interaction between preacher and audience
in order to explain the way in which preaching by Vincent Ferrer in Castile (1411-1412) was successful, particularly his anti-Semitic message. It
regards preaching as an act of communication in which the role of preacher,
and even more so a charismatic preacher such as Ferrer, and audience have as
much importance as the sermon itself. It concludes by proposing a model for
the effectiveness of the sermon that gives prominence to the role of the audience
above that of preacher and sermon.
