Abstract

This paper presents some of the most relevant findings provided by our teaching experience to enhance learning in the skill of listening comprehension of English for Specific Purposes in higher education. Theoretically, it is based on the “content-based approach” and the “cognitive theory”. With respect to students learning styles and strategies, holistic task-based and content –based programs tend to give an advantage to global learners; this approach has also been shown to be more appropriate for students with a high tolerance of ambiguity (Ehrman, 1996). The methodological proposals in this paper are validated by results of interviews and classroom observation. They all are aimed at increasing deductive reasoning and providing a high level of motivation.
