o, incluso, solo el contexto (Tymocko 1999; Bassnett y Trivedi 1999;
Cronin 2006).
sino el conjunto global de su cultura.; Postcolonial studies have paid special attention to the representation of the language of
the “other” in the narrative. These investigations have shed light on
the different types of representational strategies used to represent
the linguistic otherness and ranging from simple written comments
to the definition of voices within the body of the text, explanation,
the direct translation or even just the context (Tymocko 1999;
Bassnett and Trivedi 1999; Cronin 2006). This paper intends to list
the representational strategies that are submitted to the language
“other”, in this case the Arabic, in the Spanish narrative of fiction
written by women during the twentieth century. For that reason, it
has been selected a total of sixty-two colonial sources, novels and
short stories, that by having as backdrop Morocco, were prone to
represent –or not– the local language. After analysis of the literary
set it has been found and identified seven representational strategies
around the Arabic: silence, absence, homogenisation, foreign accent,
invention, arabisms and mimesis. This analysis demonstrates that
what happens in this Spanish narrative of Moroccan subject is a
reflection, in some way, of the frequent linguicide in areas strictly
colonial or of obvious influence in which the dominant group confuses
colonization with civilization. Thus, protected by linguisticcultural
prejudices that some languages are superior to others, the
dominant group is superimposed on the dominated group, placing
on the game board another form of ethnocide that puts at risk not
only the language of the territory subordinate but the overall set of
their culture.

intercultural.; This research analyzes the pragmatic expectations in
the field of the job interview of the learners of ELE with L1 Arabic
Moroccan or dariya and it investigates if in that context there are significant
differences between these and the native speakers of
Peninsular Spanish. Through questionnaires with Likert scale, the
categorization of responses and their comparison by a correlational
analysis (Pearson statistic), we have checked that there is a differential
behavior between the two groups explainable as a process of
Pragmatic Transfer from L1 to L2. The results obtained can be very
interesting for the creation of new ELE materials and for the
research on intercultural communication

The impact of the host-country language on international adjustment: Spanish engineers in Germany
Vijande Rodríguez, Ruth; Ruiz Yepes, Guadalupe
The main aim of this paper is to expand the knowledge on impact of
host-language proficiency as predictor of international adjustment
(work, interaction and general) and outcomes (job satisfaction, withdrawal
intentions and performance) of a global workforce group of growing
importance, the self-initiated expatriates (SIE). 870 Spanish engineers
answered an online survey (part of a PhD research). Aiming to validate
an international adjustment framework based on the model of Black et
al. (1991), with the outcomes extensions suggested by Bhaskar-Shrinivas
et al. (2005) and new factors relevant for the SIE. The analysis was done
with ATLAS.ti 7 and IBM SPSS. The paper provides empirical insights
about how host-country language proficiency characterizes the sample.
It suggests that despite intensive training, financed by companies or
expatriates directly, German is a “hard” language for Spaniards to learn
and be proficient at. It also has consequences in their career development,
as English might be the theoretical official language at international
companies, but German is still the most used at the work place.; Este artículo de
