Los cánones 1 y 59 pseudoiliberritanos
Vilella Masana, Josep
In this reply to M. Sotomayor, we hereby state the results we published in 2005 about the 1st and 59th pseudo-Iliberritan canons, which are based on the analitical and comparative study of its corresponding statements, in particular where are presented the crimes and their corresponding sanctions. In this research there are
either highlighted two precepts which entered in this compilation through different ways: this reason explains why the dispositions, related to the pagan sacrifices in the temple, penalize the same sin in a far different way. In addition to redefine its contents, our exegesis still follows basing itself on the texts about the communion
–which is always eucharistic in the pseudo-Iliberritan series– in the penitential and the idolatrous practice –above all in the passive one, whose modality the canon 59 compares it to the active. The redaction of the canons considered in this research might be placed around the middle of the IVth cantury: in this way it could be
inferred to contrast its stipulations with the disciplinary heritage, and, at the same time, the details provided by Tertullian and the XVI book of the Theodosian code about the sacrificial rituals.

Traidores de la Hélade (S. VI-V a. C.)
This paper studies the figure of the traitor in the classical period through famous examples like Hippias, Demaratus, Themistocles, Pausanias and Alcibiades. We conclude that it is possible to trace the outline of a universal traitor. We have
highlighted the importance of Persian wars and the affinities of each literary source for each character.

Era el comienzo de la Edad Media: pronto esos grandes privilegiados se convirtieron en señores soberanos de la tierra, sobre su poder se apoyaron los monarcas bárbaros para regir sus reinos.; Around the first half of the 5th century AD a fresh outbreak of the Bacaudae riot had a revival, after a first fire broke in the Galliae during the age of Diocletian. The Bacaudae of the Iberian peninsula were that host of farmers, despairs, and brigands
who did not aspire to free themselves from the imperial yoke. Indeed, they were led by landowners and rural aristocracy who we re able to manipulate the rebellion. These latter still kept alive memo ry of the mythical period of the “Imperium Galliarum”, when Britannia, Galliae, and Iberian peninsula – even if Roman –
succeeded in avoiding the heavy taxation of Rome throughout some years. However, as it often occurs, once the avalanche has been provoked it becomes arduous to control it. It starts sweeping anything away. The same happened to the Bacaudae. In addition to inflict heavy lost on Roman legions, they also struck indiscriminately those who hoped to rule the rebellion for their own interests. Furthermore, the landowners of the “Pars Occidentis” became the real lords in the country sides of the Roman Empire. It was the beginning of the Middle Age; shortly those big nester
would become liege lords, upon whom barbarian monarchs will find support to rule their kingdoms.

The incorporation of girls in the educational system in Hellenistic and Roman Greece
Mantas, Konstantinos
The ancient sources are silent on women in general and on women’s education in particular. It is well known that there was perhaps a kind of liberal education for the daughters of the aristocratic class in some archaic city-states: the fragments of Sappho’s poetry are testimony to such a hypothesis. Also, we have some ambiguous sources referring to the education of the Spartan women. All these are well Known topoi in the historiography of women’s education in antiquity.
Nevertheless, the Greek world changed drastically in the Hellenistic era and even more in the Roman imperial era. The city-states were transformed politically, socially and economically, due to the “globalization” of the Roman empire. All these political and economic changes affected the position of women in the emerging Graeco-Roman world. Epigraphical and literary sources give ample evidence that the girls of the elite were incorporated to a system of education similar to that of boys up to the age of twelve. Early marriage cut short any female ambition of higher education. There were some exceptions, especially among the circles of medical doctors who seemed to allow, occasionally, their wife or daughter to be educated on medicine through them. Also, there were midwives, now of a more sophisticated Kind, than in classical antiquity. It seems that some Kind of vocational education existed for girls of servile or lower social status. Finally, the emergence of Christianity altered drastically the syllabus of female education: well born ladies were not taught anymore the works of the great authors of antiquity duet to their
supposed immorality. St Macrina, sister of St Basil could have been a well-versed in the biblical literature but not to the work of “pagan” authors.
